For many of us, the holidays mean fulfilling long to-do lists, gathering with friends and family, and attending parties and concerts. There are so many things to think about that remembering fire safety may not be high on your list. The Muscatine Fire Department is here to help by providing some quick tips to keep you and your family safe this holiday season!

Holiday Fire Safety Tips:

1. Make sure all smoke detectors in your residence are in working order. Making sure they have new batteries and the detectors are tested regularly will help ensure they are in working order. Most detectors that are over 10 years old need to be replaced.

2. With the weather getting colder, make sure you know the risks of using a space heater. Maintain a clear area around the heater. Be sure to keep space heaters away from areas where items may fall on or around. A good rule of thumb…
